Stainless Steel vs Bronze Sculpture: Which Should You Choose?

September 16, 2026

Stainless Steel vs Bronze

Both materials make exceptional outdoor sculptures, but they serve very different briefs. Choosing between them comes down to three things: the environment, the maintenance you are willing to accept, and the look you want.

Environment

Stainless steel — especially 316 marine grade — wins outright in coastal, salt and chlorinated settings such as pools and water features. Bronze is durable but will develop a patina that some coastal clients dislike.

Maintenance

Stainless is essentially low-maintenance: a rinse keeps mirror finishes bright. Bronze develops a protective patina and needs only occasional waxing. Corten requires no maintenance at all, which is its main appeal.

The look

Stainless is clean, reflective and definitively modern. Bronze is warm, traditional and human. Corten is rugged and weathered. Choose the material that tells the story your space should tell.
