Stainless Steel Spa Water Feature for a Hotel Wellness Area

Luxury hotel · Bali, Indonesia · 316 Stainless

The wellness area needed a water feature that would feel quiet rather than decorative, and stay clean under a heavy chlorine regime. We designed a stainless steel spa water feature with a polished rim over which a thin sheet of water spills, so the sound and the light read as a single calm surface.

The polished rim and the hairline panels are set to catch the low spa lighting without glare, so the piece glows softly rather than flashing at visitors.

The brief

A luxury hotel in Bali wanted a water feature for the spa entrance that would carry ”
“the wellness mood and require no separate maintenance regime from the pool department. ”
“The room is deliberately dim, so bright or reflective finishes would have broken the ”
“atmosphere.

The water is heavily chlorinated and the spa uses it continuously, so the material ”
“had to resist both chlorine and tropical humidity. The programme ran 11 weeks, ”
“delivered in 2025.

Design approach

The feature is a rounded steel bowl from which a thin sheet of water spills over a ”
“polished rim into a shallow catch basin. The rim is the only highly polished element; ”
“the surrounding panels are hairline-finished so they pick up the low lighting without ”
“creating glare in the dim room.

Material & engineering

316 stainless steel was specified because chlorinated water and constant tropical ”
“humidity attack a lower-grade alloy, and pitting on a polished rim is the first thing ”
“to show. The bowl is TIG-welded into a single shell with the rim finished to a ”
“continuous polished edge so there is no visible join where water meets metal.

At 3.0 m × 2.2 m × 0.45 m the piece carries the weight of the water on a concealed ”
“internal structure that drains back to the spa’s existing plumbing.

Fabrication & finish

The bowl was formed and welded in the shop, then the rim was hand-polished and the ”
“panels hairline-finished. The waterway was checked in the shop with water running ”
“before crating, since a rim that spills unevenly cannot be corrected on site.

Installation

The feature shipped as a protected unit and was set on a prepared drain point in the ”
“spa entrance. It was plumbed to the existing system and tested with running water ”
“before the spa reopened.

Outcome & value

The feature now does the work of a spa threshold: the sound and the low reflection ”
“signal the calm of the wellness area before a guest enters. Under daily chlorination ”
“the rim has held its finish, and the piece runs within the pool department’s existing ”
“cleaning schedule.
